Testimonials 2012-2013
How has being a member of the Brock Catholic Students' Association influenced you?
Chung-Mi Jang
My name is Chung-Mi Jang and I am a Concurrent Education student. I am currently the Music Minister for the Catholic Chaplaincy and the former Co-President of the Brock Catholic Newman Club. I have been a member of the Catholic Newman Club, now Catholic Students' Association, since my first year. When I met the executives and the Chaplain team in September 2010, immediately I was welcomed and I felt that I belong in this community. During the club meetings, social events, social justice events, retreats and mass, I not only learned more about my faith, but I grew in faith with the Catholic community. Through this I have made numerous friends and I have met many amazing people including Bishop Bergie. When I meet the BCSA executives and the Chaplaincy team, I know there will always be someone who will be there to listen, to support you, to comfort you, and will make you smile and laugh.

How has being an integral part of the Catholic Community been significant to you?
Erin Murphy
My name is Erin Murphy and I’m a Brock student studying Speech and Language Sciences. I have been a member of the former Catholic Newman club for the past three years. It has truly been rewarding and enriching life experience. In my first year being away from home, the Newman Club provided a supportive and welcoming atmosphere. It introduced me to friends who share the same values and morals. Having these lasting friendships have helped me stay strong in my faith. I have always been able to come to them with my struggles and questions. They have helped support me and build me up by making me a better person. Without BCSA, I would not be the person I am today.

What experiences have you gathered attending the Fall and Winter retreats?
Kyle St. Aubin
My name is Kyle St. Aubin. I’m in my third year of the Concurrent Education program, majoring in history, and I’m also the spiritual minister of the BSCA. I have attended the annual retreat each year and had a blast each time. And yes, I do mean that! One of the things that I took away from the retreats each year was a deep sense of peace. Despite my life being hectic and bogged down with assignments (when is this ever not the case for a student?), I could not help but be moved by putting all that aside for just a few days of peaceful reflection and fun games. These retreats have always struck a balance between the more serious aspects of our faith, such as Reconciliation, and relaxing with fun activities, such as movies and ping pong. They have allowed me to grow in my spiritual life by examining what it means to be a Catholic, what Catholics believe and why, and how to share this Good News with others! Through various activities such as hikes, snowball fights, and conversations over meals and late into the night, I have grown closer to those in the BCSA community. I look forward to attending the retreat again this year! I sincerely hope to see you there. P.S. The food was delicious!
What have you taken away from the CCO Faith Studies?
Lauren Katanik
Hi, my name is Lauren Katanik; I began my studies in Sociology at Brock in 2009. I was always raised Catholic but after living away from home for the first time, I found I had more questions about my faith than ever before. Looking for answers, I joined the BCSA, what was then Brock Catholic Newman Club, in 2012. This was the first year the CCO Faith Studies were offered and, in joining, I found answers to the questions I had and even to questions I didn't know I had! My favourite thing that I learned was how to understand sin as it so beautifully depicted in a painting by St. Catherine of Sienna. I also loved the faith study because of the relationships I formed between the members of my group, which I still greatly value today. Not only did I learn from the faith study, but I gained a great group of Catholic friends on which I can call whenever I have questions. Overall, the faith study has helped me strengthen my understanding of the Catholic faith and my relationship with God; this was exactly what I was looking for! I would highly recommend the faith studies to anyone looking to grow in their faith while meeting great people and gaining some new friends at the same time.
